In 2017, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Sh. Narendra Modi was invited by the Hon’ble President of Russia, Mr. Vladimir Putin to visit the Sirius Centre, Sochi. Impressed by the innovative students of the Sirius Centre, Sh. Modi and Mr. Putin mutually agreed that a bi-lateral collaboration between India and Russia may be explored for the benefit of young innovators of both countries. In 2018, the collaboration between Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, Government of India and Sirius Centre, Sochi, Russia started with the AIM-Sirius Innovation Festival.
The AIM-Sirius Innovation Festival witnessed a delegation of ten Russian student innovators and ten Indian innovators from the best performing Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) coming together for a four-day residential innovation boot-camp at Department of Design in IIT Delhi, India from 1st to 4th October 2019. 5 teams addressing challenges in 5 different focus areas, viz. Smart Mobility, Clean Energy, Space Research, Agri-Tech, Healthcare created Proof of concepts and presented them to the Hon’ble President of Russia, Mr. Vladimir Putin and Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Sh. Narendra Modi on 5th October 2018.
During the event, with the vision to inculcate a spirit of innovation and collaboration between young minds of Russia and India, Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) in India and Fund “Talent and Success” (Sirius) in Russia jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of the Hon’ble President of Russia, Mr. Vladimir Putin and Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Sh. Narendra Modi.
In 2019, a delegation of 25 students and 5 teachers of and 25 Russian students visited the Sirius Centre, Sochi Russia for a 7-day Research-based Program. The teams created 8 different innovations under focus areas, viz Remote Earth Sensing, Biological and Genetic Research, Clean Energy, Data analytics & Frontier Technologies, and Drones & Robotics. The innovations were presented to the Hon’ble President of Russia, Mr. Vladimir Putin on 5th December 2019.
During the year of 2020, we are distanced by the pandemic but our spirit is connected. Taking inspiration from India’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and Russia’s ‘Big Challenges’, AIM and Sirius have devised World’s First Indo-Russia Bilateral Youth Innovation Program for School Students. During this 2-week collaboration program from 7th to 21st November 2020, 48 students, 16 educators and mentors shall create 8 virtual products and mobile applications which will solve the new global challenges of the post-COVID era.

The Innovations developed by the student teams shall leverage 21st century technologies such as – App Development, Artificial Intelligence, BlockChain, Machine Learning, Data analytics and visualization, UI/UX, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Gamification, 3D Design, Rapid Prototyping, etc. Mentors from Industry and Academia partners of AIM and Sirius from respective countries shall be selected to work closely with the teams to develop their ideas and innovations.
This year’s cohort is selected from the pool of best Russian students from Sirius Centre and the best Indian students and ATL Incharges from the Top 150 teams of ATL Marathon 2019.
Expected Project Outcome: The teams are expected to understand requirements of today’s time and age, define problem statements, develop innovations and showcase their prototypes/proof of concepts/applications at the conclusion of the program.
