We are team of two members Versha and Nirvika reading in class IX of Surevin International School. We created a Mosquito breeding prevention model based on the principle of not allowing the water to stand still where mosquitoes can breed and build their communities. The model consists of prototype of pond and a mechanized duck with a paddle behind it.
We saw this problem of increasing dengue cases in our locality. Many of my friends in the school also suffered through this condition so we thought of designing a simple model which can prevent mosquitoes from gathering around in the water puddles or in the trenches or small ponds in our surroundings. This model is based on the principle of not allowing the water to stand still where mosquitoes can breed and build their communities. The idea behind the model is not to give any solution but to give a principle on which everyone can innovate or design their own ways. In our Mosquito breeding prevention model, we designed a mechanized duck with the paddle behind it. The idea is to drop the mechanized duck in the small water bodies where mosquitoes can potentially breed. The paddle behind it will move with the power supply through a battery or solar energy during the daylight. Movements from the paddle will create ripples or small waves on the water surface that will not allow the water surface to be still hence mosquitoes will not be allowed to breed or sit or build their community. Using this technique mosquitoes can be effectively reduced from increasing the numbers and potentially the number of dengue cases can be reduced.
Participating in this model made us realize the potential of human that we can solve any problem in our surrounding and we must take care of our environmental resources like water. We should not allow water to get polluted or stand still where mosquitoes or other disease-causing elements can gather. Also, we realized that the idea of problem solving should not be very complex it can be very simple or primitive like we did with our model.
