Our school Kanchi Sri Sankara Academy Matric Hr. Sec.school is located at West Tiruchendur,4 kms away from Tiruchendur towards Tirunelveli. It is housed in a sprawling campus of 16 acres in an ever-green environment. The environment is so serene that it encourages effective learning. Learning takes place in a pollution free healthy atmosphere. In 2017, Atal Tinkering Lab was established, and it was inaugurated by School Education Minister Mr. K Shengottiyan. This lab enhances the students’ creativity and logical thinking capacity.
In this academic year (2019-2020) we participated in many National Level events like 47th Jawaharlal Nehru Science Exhibition in Karur, International Robotics Competition (IRC) and Avishkaar Makeathon in Delhi and First Lego League (FLL) in Chennai.
For Jawaharlal Nehru Science Exhibition, we presented a project “Space Challenge Robot” under the category of Future Transport and Communication. We participated in Regional level (Madurai) and qualified for the National level under junior category (Hurdle Race) and demonstrated the project “Agriculture for Zero Hunger” in Avishkaar Makeathon. It is a one-of-a-kind competition which aims to promote making in our country at an early stage. It is a celebration of science, technology and art where ambitious students can explore their passions and showcase their dreams ideas to the world.
FIRST LEGO League is an international competition organized by FIRST for elementary and middle school students. Each year in August, FIRST LEGO League introduces a scientific and real-world challenge for teams to focus and research on. Each Challenge has three parts: Robot Game, Innovation Project, Core Values and Game Design. Group of 10 students participated in it and qualified for the National Levels.
We had done a Space Challenge Robot to participate in the state level 47th Jawaharlal Nehru Science Competition. We went through the Regional and District level to participate in the national level. So, we learnt many things (ideas, their perception on the problems, creativity) from the other school participants and shared with other students those who did not participate in this competition. The judges appreciated our students work for their efforts. First time, we participated in this IRC and Avishkaar competition, so we learnt a lot of things from orientation session and developed our skills like teamwork, leadership, creativity and making portable models.
Participants exposed their skills to potential career paths within a chosen Challenge topic, in addition to solidifying the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) principles that naturally come from participating in the program. Team members also learnt valuable life and employment skills which will benefit them no matter which career path they choose. All the participants in the FLL team were actively doing their works. Teamwork is the key which helps us to qualified for the national Level. We submitted the project which tried to solve city problems like pollution and water management.
In this academic year, we started our participation towards the national level. It gives the platform to explore our knowledge and enhance our skills to the next level. We prepared a lot for this competition (National Level) compared to the other competitions. We shared our experience with other students in morning assembly. Including principal mam, all the teachers have supported us to do the projects. It will help the students to know about the various level of competition and our contribution. By means of these various robotics competitions, we explored our skills in Robotics and developed our communication skill as well. Especially in FLL competition, students from various classes participated and showed their individual skills to do the Robotics. We must thank the parents very much for their support. They all are working for their team “Kanchi Innovators” and they are keen to participate in International level competitions in coming days.
